Weaver Sanitation Transfer Station
MCS adapted its bridge-grade grid decking technology for a demanding industrial waste-transfer station floor in Breezewood, PA. The 3,652-square-foot installation uses 28 heavy-duty galvanized panels designed to distribute truck and bulldozer loads across the deck surface.

The Challenge
The existing waste-transfer station floor had deteriorated under repeated truck and bulldozer traffic, leaving holes and worn areas that threatened operations. Weaver Sanitation needed a stronger, longer-lasting flooring system capable of distributing heavy vehicle loads more effectively. An asphalt placement issue around the installation area later required the grid deck to be remade, adding schedule and coordination complexity.

The MCS Approach
MCS applied the same durable grid technology used in bridge construction to an industrial flooring application. The team fabricated 28 galvanized grid deck panels with 4¼-inch bearing bars and ¾-inch-wide bearing bar heads, placing more steel at the top wear surface than many conventional deck systems. MCS welded the completed panels in-house and sent them out for galvanizing. When the surrounding asphalt issue forced a remake, the team reproduced the required decking without losing sight of the original delivery target.

The Outcome
MCS met the original delivery date and completed the work within budget. Once the replacement system is installed, the grid floor is expected to provide improved load distribution and a longer service life than the previous floor. The project also demonstrates how MCS grid decking can extend beyond bridges into transfer stations, waste-management facilities, industrial plants, ports, and other heavy-duty non-bridge applications.
